2. Scholarships1. Local scholarship forms will be handed out in Feb/March.

                                       PLEASE REMEMBER THAT TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS, YOU

                                       MUST TAKE 7 COURSES PER SEMESTER (INCLUDING COLLEGE COURSES).

        2. Apply for admission to the school(s) you are considering.

        3. Check with the college for scholarship & financial aid deadlines and

         applications.

        4. Talk to college reps when they come.

        7. Check the Scholarship Folder on the server or at the FHS website.

                                    This will be updated often, so check it each week to see if anything new is added.

3. Financial Aid Night--January (TBA) at 6:30 for information about the FAFSA.

4. Check the bulletin board by the Guidance Office every week.

5.  Transcripts--send one with every application.

6.  Recruiters/College Reps.  Remember that they are sales people with a job to do. 

      Be respectful, but don’t be shy about telling them you are  or are not interested.  

7. Regents Curriculum/Ks. Scholar’s Curriculum. 

    Remember that you must have taken the regents college

    curriculum to be eligible for valedictorian.  It is also used for college entrance to one of the Board of

    Regents schools here in Kansas (KU, K-State, WSU, PSU, ESU, FHSU.)  The Scholars Curriculum is used

     (along with ACT scores) to select State Scholars.

The Regents Curriculum

4 units of English

3 units of Natural Science (Biology, Adv. Bio., Earth/Space Science, Chemistry, Physics)

3 units of Math (Algebra 1 or higher) taken in High School.

3 units of Social Science

1 unit of Computer Technology

Foreign Language is recommended, but not required.

The Kansas Scholar’s Curriculum

4 units of English

3 units of Natural Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics)

4 units of Math (Algebra 1 or higher)

3 units of Social Science

1 unit of Computer Technology

2 units of the same Foreign Language

8.  Remember that you need to be enrolled in 7 classes each semester to be eligible for the local

     scholarships.

9.  Challenge yourself this year!  Your final year in High School  is not a good year to coast.  Push yourself to get involved.

10.  Taking a college class.  You are invited to take classes from ICC if you wish to.  It is not a requirement that you take college classes, but students in the past have found it a cost effective way of getting started in college.

11. Enjoy your Senior year.  You only get to do this once (I hope), so take the time to enjoy it.  Don’t be in

     too big a hurry for it to end--that will happen soon enough.  If Jane or I can help in any way, let us know.
