8-30-07  The University of Kansas has set Nov. 1 2007 as it’s early notification deadline for freshman scholarship consideration, and Dec. 1 as it’s final deadline for freshman scholarships.  It would be advisable to have your application for admission and your scholarship forms in before Nov. 1.  The priority deadline for scholarship halls is March 1, 2008.
 
8-30-07  The WSU Distinguished Scholarship competition is by inviation.  You should apply asap, and will need a 3.5 GPA and a 24 compositite on the ACT.  This could lead to winning one of the 2 Gore Scholarships worth $48,000.  If interested, please act on this now by applying for admisstion to WSU and filling in scholarship forms.  The Barton School of Business at WSU also has scholarships available.
 
8-30-07  The Wendy’s High School Heisman Award Program has an Oct. 1 deadline to apply online    www.wendysheisman.com      and is open to Seniors who excel in the classroom and in sports.  You must apply and have your application reviewed by Mr. Edwards or Mr. Lambert.

9-17-07  The K-State Civic Leadership Scholarship has $4,000, $2,500 and $2,000 scholarships available for students who have demonstrated a commitment to serving others in their community, school, or place of worship.  Apply for application to K-State and complete a regular and a Leadership Scholarship form by the deadline of Friday, Dec. 14, 2007.  See Mr. E for details, or go to    www.k-state.edu/nss/civicleadership
 
9-17-07  The Coca-Cola Scholars program as 250 scholarships worth $3 million, and has a deadline of Oct. 31, 2007.  You will apply on-line to    www.coca-colascholars.org
 
9-17-07  The AXA Foundation has 42 $10,000 and 10 $25,000 scholarships with a deadline of Dec. 15, 2007,  for students who set and reach ambitious goals, demonstrate drive, determination and ability to succeed in college and who have respect for self, family, and community.   Go to   www.axa-achievement.com
 
9-17-07  Any Senior who intends to go to a vocational school next fall should fill out the Vocational Education Scholarship Application worth $500.   To apply, go to

You are encouraged to take the Exam in November, 2007, and this test has an Oct. 1 deadline to apply.   The March 2008 test has a Feb. 4 deadline to apply.

10-10-07  The University of Kansas has 10 Hixson Opportunity Awards worth $20,000 ($5,000 a year for 4 years) for entering Freshman attending KU.  It was established for students who would otherwise not be able to attend due to financial restrictions or other personal hardships.  Go to   www.scholarships.ku.edu/hixson.shtml  to apply, or for more information.  Mr. Edwards also has material on this scholarship you can read.
 
10-10-07  The Fraternal Order of Elks Scholarship has 42 Kansas scholarships (4 $4000 and 38 $600), and the state winners compete for National awards.  The deadline to apply is Jan. 11, 2008.  It is a fairly long application, and is available from Mr. Edwards.  See him, or contact Paula Ash at   pjash@sbcglobal.net
 
10-10-07  If you are interested in going to Colby Community College and have an ACT composite of 22 or higher, see Mr. Edwards about the Presidential Scholarship.  The deadline to apply is Jan. 18, 2008
 
 
11-19-07  Any student who has owned and operated their own business while in high school is eligible to apply for the McKelvey Foundation scholarship, worth $10,000 per year (renewable for 4 years).  Go to www.mckelveyfoundation.org   or call 877-McKelvey

11-19-07  The Ayn Rand Institute sponsors 2 scholarship competitions, one for 9-10th grade students who read Anthem by Ayn Rand, and one for 11-12th grade students who read The Fountainhead by the same author.  There are more than 300 winners, and the grand prize essay for Anthem has an award of $2,000, and the grand prize essay for The Fountainhead has a $10,000 prize.  You may submit your essay on-line to

11-19-07  The American Legion has a number of scholarships available to seniors.  Go to
www.ksamlegion.org   and then to “program” and scroll down for information about all the scholarships and their deadlines (Jan. 15, the majority by Feb. 15, and some as late as July 15
 
12-20-07  Applications are available online for the USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships.  Go to    www.usafunds.org/scholarship   This scholarship is for $1500, and the deadline to apply is Feb. 15, 2008
 
12-20-07  The Kansas Board of Regents invites students to go to  http://www.kansasregents.org   for scholarship opportunities.  Look under Student Financial
Aid.  Money is available in nursing, teaching, for state scholars, & for minority students.
 
12-20-07  College Goal Sunday is scheduled for Feb. 10,2008.  Students who need help with FAFSA and other financial aid questions are invited to attend the event.  A list of those locations is avaliable at   http://www.collegegoal.org     You may also win a $500 scholarship by attending this event.  The closest locations for our students are Pittsburg and Iola.  The website is helpful, and information is listed by category on the right side of the page.
 
12-20-07  The Kansas Assn. of Collegiate Registrars And Admissions Officers have 4 $500 scholarships available.  You will need a composite ACT of 22 and a cumulative GPA of 3.25 to apply.  Applications are due March 15, 2008.  Mr. E has applications, or you may download one from   www.kacrao.org
 
1-14-08  The Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants has 10 accounting scholarships available to Seniors, ranging from $1300 to $500.  Qualifications are a high ACT, going to a Kansas college and majoring in accounting.  You may read about this at kscpa.org, or let Mr. E know you would like to apply, and I will send your ACT, name, and address to the contact person.  Deadline to apply--March 3, 2008

1-14-08  The Kansas Junior Golf Scholarship is available to any student who has participated in junior golf activities (including HS golf), and pays $1250 per school year, renewable for 4 years.  Deadline to apply is April 4, 2008.  Go to the following link

1-14-08  Four County Mental Health has a $250 scholarship for Seniors.  Mr. E has the applications, and you should have one filled out (including the requested references) and returned to the 4 County Professional Advisory Board no later than April 2, 2008

1-23-08  The Kansas Masonic Foundation has low interest loans that can become scholarships if you do well in college.  Don’t confuse this program with the ads you see on tv that promote college loans.  Those tv minutes are expensive, and that company is in business to make money.  The Kansas Masonic Foundation set a deadline of April 15 for submission of their paperwork.  See Mr. E for forms for information.

1-23-08  The National Farmers Farm Kids for College Scholarship program has 3 $1000 scholarships available to Seniors.  See Mr. E for a scholarship form.  Deadline for submission is March 10, 2008.
 
2-28-08  The local scholarships are available, and the final date to turn the forms into Jane is March 10 (Monday) at 4:00 p.m.
 
2-28-08  The Community National Bank has a scholarship for students who willl attend PSU.  If you are interested, see Mr. E for a form that will be due back to the bank by March 15, 2008.  The amount of the scholarship is $500 ($250 per semester).
 
2-28-08  There is a $1000 scholarship available, the Senator Robert J. Dole Public Service Scholarship Program.  The deadline is March 22, 2008.  If interested, go to

2-28-08  The K-State Developing Scholars Program is recruiting highly motivated underrepresented students (students of color and first generation college students) to place them with faculty to work on projects in their field of study, and to prepare selected students for graduate and professional schools.  It is for $2000 for the first year, and for $2500 in continuing years.  Anita Cortez is the contact at K-State, and you can call her at 785-532-5864, or go to    www.k-state.edu/scholars   and click on “About the Program”.  There is an application you can print.  Deadline is March 21, 2008.
