The Fredonia High School Pom Pon and Cheerleading Squads recently returned from a NDA/NCA summer camp held June 13-16 at Emporia State University.  The National Dance Alliance (NDA) and the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) are all divisions of the National Spirit Group, one of the largest privately held cheer and dance organizations in American.  The National Spirit Group, founded in 1948 by L.R. Herkimer, hosts camps, championships and events for over 180,000 cheerleaders and dancers each year. 

The F.H.S. Pom Pon Squad received the following awards or certificates at the NDA camp.
¬	Spirit Stick: Presented daily to the teams showing the most sincere spirit and enthusiasm for the day, taking into account; being on time, cooperation, relationships with other teams, leadership, etc… Fredonia received the Spirit Stick each day.
¬	Improved Technique Certificate: A daily award presented to the teams that show the most improvement in technical areas throughout the camp.
¬	Team Performance Dance:  The Fredonia Pom squad received a Superior rating-which indicates that a team has mastered all areas of NDA standards of excellence-and also the top award of a Gold Plaque. 
¬	NDA National Championship Bid Winners: This tremendous accomplishment is awarded to teams exemplifying the best overall skill and dance technique. Awarded teams have shown the potential to complete nationally; however, Kansas High School Athletic Associations rules/regulations prohibit Kansas dance teams from competing.
¬	Most Improved Team: Awarded to the team who improves the most over the 4-day camp.
¬	Home Routine: The Fredonia squad received a Superior rating on the routine. A superior rating indicates that a team has mastered all areas of NDA standards of excellence.
¬	Merit Ribbons: Individual awards/ribbons presented to dancers excelling in one of the three areas: Technical Excellence, Superior Showmanship, and Spirit Award.  Spirit Ribbons were awarded to the following girls:  Amy M., Erin S., Olivia J., Clara S., and Kelsey B.  Superior Showmanship Ribbons were awarded to Amy M., Christina G., Erin S., Kaitlyn R., and Mali F. Technical Excellence Ribbons were awarded to Macie H. and Mara K. 
¬	All-American Nominees: Nominations are presented to outstanding individuals who display strength in dance performance skills, leadership ability, and/or overall attitude at camp.  This year’s All-American Nominees were Macie H., Christina G., and Erin S.  These individuals are eligible to perform at various NCA Special Events.
¬	Top Gun Recipient:  A fun award that is presented to winner of the Top Gun Competition in the area of Hip Hop Dance Style.  This year’s winner was Macie Hall.

The F.H.S. Cheer Squad received the following awards or certificates at the NCA camp.
¬	Spirit Stick: Presented daily to the teams showing the most sincere spirit and enthusiasm for the day, taking into account; being on time, cooperation, relationships with other teams, leadership, etc… 
¬	The Herkie TEAM Award: The Herkie TEAM Award Winner is awarded to squads who exemplify the qualities upon which NCA was founded. These qualities are leadership, values, and teamwork.
¬	Daily Evaluations: 1st day: Superior rating on their Chant and an Excellent rating on their Cheer. 2nd day: Superior rating on their Chant and Cheer.  Final Evaluations: Superior Ribbon on their Chant and Cheer. A superior ribbon is the top rating presented at camp.  The FHS Cheers did an outstanding job with their cheers and chants.
¬	NCA National Championship Bid Winners: This tremendous accomplishment is awarded to teams exemplifying the best overall skill and cheerleading technique. Awarded teams have shown the potential to complete nationally; however, Kansas High School Athletic Associations rules/regulations prohibit Kansas cheer teams from competing.
¬	Safety Spot Award:  Awarded to the team who demonstrates safety in the area of spotting in stunting.
¬	All-American Nominees: Nominations are presented to outstanding individuals who display strength one of the following categories: motions, jumps, stunts, tumbling, dance or leadership.  This year’s All-American Nominees were Lauren R. and Kelsey S.   These individuals are eligible to perform at various NCA Special Events.
