The story begins: Once upon a time there was a farmer named Mr. Brown who had a turkey farm.
Step 1. There was a fence all the way around his farm. (Students should have drawn a circle in the middle of the page. This would be the body of the turkey.)
Step 2: In the middle of his farm there was a road that went from the house to the barn. (Draw a line from an imaginary house to an imaginary barn. This was the wing of the turkey.)
Step 3. On the upper right side outside the fence, Farm Brown had a small pond where he liked to go fishing. (Make a small circle for the pond-or the head of the turkey.)
Step 4. In the middle of the pond was an island. (Draw a small circle for the island, this represent the eye.)
Step 5. On the bottom side of the farm a little ways from the farm or fence there were two small hills. (Draw two small hills-this is the feet of the turkey.)
The story continues, as Mr. Brown cannot find his favorite turkey, so he begins to look for the turkey. Each following step helps to complete drawing a turkey, with the last step locating Mr. Brown’s lost turkey.
Have your child tell you the story about Farmer Brown’s Turkey and you draw a turkey from their instructions.
