1. ACT--forms are available outside my office in the file cabinet, and you may register on-line if you wish. This year we will have practice ACT’s or tutorials in specific areas available from the people at Bridges. go to www.bridges.com Use the FHS code (0100822) and password (jackets). You will need to make a portfolio, and can use this to store anything you create or do with careers, college information, & scholarship searches. If you made one last year, the same password should work. Ask me if you can’t remember yours.

6. Check the bulletin board by the Guidance Office every week.

7. Transcripts--send one with every application.

8. Recruiters/College Reps. Remember that they are sales people with a job to do.
Be respectful, but don’t be shy about telling them you are or are not interested.

9. Regents Curriculum/Ks. Scholar’s Curriculum.
Remember that you must have taken the regents college
curriculum to be eligible for valedictorian. It is also used for college entrance to one of the Board of
Regents schools here in Kansas (KU, K-State, WSU, PSU, ESU, FHSU.) The Scholars Curriculum is used
(along with ACT scores) to select State Scholars.

The Regents Curriculum

		 4 units of English
3 units of Natural Science (Biology, Adv. Bio., Earth/Space Science, Chemistry, Physics)
3 units of Math (Algebra 1 or higher) taken in High School.
		3 units of Social Science
		1 unit of Computer Technology
Foreign Language is recommended, but not required.

The Kansas Scholar’s Curriculum

		4 units of English
3 units of Natural Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics)
4 units of Math (Algebra 1 or higher)
		3 units of Social Science
		1 unit of Computer Technology
2 units of the same Foreign Language

10. Remember that you need to be enrolled in 7 classes each semester to be eligible for the local
     scholarships.

11. Challenge yourself this year! Your final year in High School is not a good year to coast. Push yourself to get involved.

12. Taking a college class. You are invited to take classes from ICC if you wish to. It is not a requirement that you take college classes, but students in the past have found it a cost effective way of getting started in college.

13. Enjoy your Senior year. You only get to do this once (I hope), so take the time to enjoy it. Don’t be in
too big a hurry for it to end--that will happen soon enough. If Jane or I can help in any way, let us know.

FHS Seniors--07
The Guidance Office is open to you for any help you may need.  If you have questions, or your parents/guardians have questions, please ask.  I am available at the High School on Monday and Thursday all day, and on Wednesday afternoon.  I am also available after school if anyone needs to visit then because of work schedules.  Jane McGinnis will be helping set up your college/vocational school visits and with scholarships.
